With its pointiest bit standing at just under 1,000 metres (3,213 feet), Pennsylvania doesn't have much height. However, Pennsylvanian winters are notoriously cold and the state enjoys good snowfall (250 cms annually, or 100 inches), providing some pretty decent natural conditions for skiing and snowboarding.

There's close to 30 ski resorts in Pennsylvania offering a range of terrain, from snow tubing runs to extensive terrain parks. You'll find the biggest vertical in the state at Blue Mountain resort (329 metres or 1,082 feet), while Seven Springs has the largest skiiable area of 285 acres.

Cross country skiing is also popular in Pennsylvania, especially in the Pocono Mountains, where state parks and national recreation areas provide a network of trails to explore.
