Although North Carolina sits on the US' eastern seaboard and technically is classed as a southern state, its pointiest bits are well inland where there's less influence from the Atlantic - giving it a climate more similar to states a fair bit further north. The state doesn't get lashings of snow, but with a little help from the snow canons, there's some terrain worth dusting off your gear for.
There are eight ski resorts in North Carolina, most of them relatively small and family-focused, and one snow tubing park.
The vertical's not bad. At Sugar Mountain there's 365 metres (1,200 feet) and a skiable terrain of about 115 acres. There's also a terrain park here and night skiing. At the smaller end of the scale, Appalachian Mountain resort still manages to muster up two terrain parks and a handful of black diamond runs.
