Â
Norbotten is a county in the far north of Sweden in the vast, untamed wilds of Lapland. Bordering Norway and poking up into the artic circle, this is a land of extremes and harsh winters. Only Santa and the well-rugged-up can survive up here. But if you're prepared for that, you'll be rewarded with awesome amounts of snowfall and constant hours of daylight, all 24 of which you can take advantage of if you're fit enough.
Â
Because of its far northern position (it's the most northerly resort in the world), Riksgränsen has become a Mecca for powderhounds and heli-skiers. Accommodation here is limited to one hotel, but if you're a lover of the remote you should fit in well. Other resorts include Björkliden, which has guaranteed pow and a drop of over 500 metres, as well as Kåbdalis and Thunder Mountain. Expect to be able to ski or ride until well into May in most resorts.
