While the undisputed jewel in New York State's crown is Manhattan, there's a little known fact about this north eastern corner of the US - there's some great skiing and snowboarding here.

For one thing, there are at least sixty ski resorts in New York State, which is no mean feat for a state on the eastern seaboard. There's stacks of vertical here too (up to 1,000 metres or nearly 3,500 feet at Whiteface, which is enough, statistically speaking, to rival many resorts on the west coast.

You'll find something for everyone here, from gentle bunny slopes to slick resorts. There are also a maize of backcountry trails dissecting New York State's state parks.
