There are around 50 ski resorts in Michigan, many with well-established cross-country centres. Ski areas range from sports parks like Pando, with runs in single figures and a vertical of less than 50 metres (125-odd feet), to all-rounder resorts with over 200 acres of terrain like Big Powderhorn Mountain, the Boyne ski areas, Nubs Nob, Indianhead and Caberfae Peaks.

The most extreme skiing and boarding in the area is found at Mount Bohemia. With a 300 metre vertical (around 900 feet), plenty of natural snow and inbounds terrain that's often left ungroomed - not to mention runs with names like The Beast and Widowmaker - the resort is aimed firmly at intermediate-to-expert skiers.
