Poking out into the Atlantic Ocean on the US' east coast and bordering Connecticut to the south and New Hampshire to the north, Massachusetts isn't the US' most obvious skiing and snowboarding state. However, plenty of snow falls here during the winter, and there's enough height (over 1,000 metres, or nearly 3,500 feet) to warrant dusting off your gear and heading out for a weekend blast.

There are close to twenty ski resorts in Massachusetts, mostly up in the north western corner - on the opposite side of the state to Boston. Among the largest are Berkshire East Ski Area and Jiminy Creek Mountain Resort (both with around 45 runs and a 350 metre or 1,180 feet vertical), and Ski Butternet. There's plenty of beginner and intermediate terrain in Massachusetts, as well as a healthy smattering of double diamond runs.
