If you didn't want to go quite as far north, or remote, as Riksgränsen, Jämtland County has arguably the best skiing and snowboarding of anywhere in Sweden . It gets a mammoth season too - from November till May - and bags of sunshine, which means you can pop back here long after most of the hills in central Europe have turned green.
Â
Arefjallen is pretty much the most popular skiing area in the country and has an après ski scene to match. It consists of five separate resorts which, when linked, give you access to over 100 pistes. The biggest vertical drop of anywhere in Sweden is also found here (nearly a kilometre down) and there's more than 500 km of cross-country trails too. Vemdalen is similarly popular and, with three linked resorts, offers the same sort of terrain (and partying) ... just scaled down a little.
