Alabama shares the Appalachian mountain range with Tennessee to the north. The scenery here is undeniably beautiful, but at 550 metres (about 1,750 feet) these rocks aren't really high enough to counter the mild winters experienced this far south in the US. It rains plenty down here, but rarely snows.
If you're desperate to go skiing or snowboarding in Alabama however, you can do it - at the Cloudmont Ski and Golf Resort in Mentone, Lookout Mountain county. This resort offers night skiing, snow making, a couple of lifts and a vertical of just over 45 metres (150 feet).
